Preparing for Lent
Jesus has set us free
Jesus has set us free!
How easy it is to say that sentence without giving a second thought to the slavery we used to have . . . or maybe still experience at times because we fail to see how free we are.
In a society that has huge personal freedoms, it’s easy to forget that the worst types of slavery are ones that could still wrap us up and steal the joy of life.
In fact, sadly, some of the very things we pursue with our personal freedoms are things that end up enslaving us. But Jesus said, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
Throughout the Wednesdays leading up to Easter we will focus on the freedoms Jesus won for us when he gave up his freedom to serve us. Each week we will look at ways the Scripture shows us that we would be enslaved without Christ and how we have been set free. The goal is that we would experience to the fullest the great freedom Christ has for us as we learn that he has set us free from.
As part of our Lenten focus, we encourage families to join us for soup lunch/dinners on Wednesday’s each week beginning March 9 at 12:00 & 6:30 p.m.
Our Shepherding team is looking for volunteers who can bring soup, or help with set up/clean up? We have a signup sheet available at the Information counter and would greatly appreciate your serving in either of the above mentioned ways. Lent begins on February 22, and continues for six weeks. If you have any questions, please contact Sheri Fraga at 925-337-0046.
